A nationwide search has begun to find a successor to John G. Kapanke, president and chief executive officer of the ELCA Board of Pensions, who announced he will retire when his sixth four-year term ends September 30, 2011. We are thankful for John’s many years of leadership service. This memorandum is intended to provide you with additional information about the search process.
The Board of Trustees of the Board of Pensions has established a search committee and engaged Diversified Search Odgers Berndtson, an executive search firm to conduct the nationwide search. Diversified has a significant track record in recruiting CEOs to Lutheran organizations. Headquartered in Philadelphia, and with offices throughout the country, Diversified understands what it means to be both a business and a ministry of the ELCA.
Our search consultants from Diversified, Cynthia Barth and Don Clark, have already met with the search committee and ELCA Presiding Bishop Mark Hanson. A number of stakeholder conversations also have been scheduled to gain additional insight into the Board of Pensions, its mission, vision and values.
On the recommendation of our search consultants, the search committee has agreed that names of internal candidates and external candidates should be forwarded to Diversified to ensure that all candidates are given equal weight and consideration. If you are interested in the position or would like to refer someone to the search committee, contact either Cynthia Barth or Don Clark.
The search committee asks for your prayers of support as it carries out its important work of finding a new president and CEO to lead the Board of Pensions in the future.
