Programs for the poor only account for 1% of the federal budget. We must create a circle of protection around those important programs.
Developmental Assistance (impacting hunger and health in foreign countries) accounts for only .6% of the budget. We must protect this money. It’s a drop in the bucket that makes a huge difference.
As Bishop Gordy (SE Synod) reminded us, there used to be an agreement in our country that all of our kids would go to school, and that they would all ha e health care. That seems to have shifted. Government is painted by the pundits as bad, as a monster that must be starved, rather than as a tool for justice and social order.
