I’m reading Mark Allan Powell’s “Introducing the New Testament,” which I’m told is now the second most popular NT textbook. It’s written in Powell’s always easy-to-understand style.

Powell writes on one of the most famous early Christians, Justin Martyr, perhaps best known for this single paragraph, in which he provides a description of an early Christian worship service.

Word, Sacrament, Prayer, Offering. The president (presider, pastor) uses the offering to take care of orphans, widows, the sick, the imprisoned and resident immigrants.

What I love about Powell’s book is that it comes with a website, http://www.IntroducingNT.com, which houses all the illustrations and also numerous others that would not fit in the book. Brilliant.
