Gustav landed early morning on September 1, 2008 as a category two hurricane in Cocodrie, Louisiana, after ravaging Haiti, Jamaica, Cuba and other islands. Gustav took 153 lives. $6.6 billion in damage. $4.3 billion in the US.
Later that month, Haiti and Cuba were devastated again by Hurricane Ike, which eventually landed in Galveston on September 13, 2008. Ike was responsible for 195 deaths, and $25 billion in damage.
