This morning, December 5, 2021, on the second Sunday of Advent, I had the pleasure of preaching and presiding for the first communion of 12 students, one baptism, and one confirmation at Iglesia Luterana Principe de Paz, Houston.

Let me just say that first communion is a BIG DEAL for the good folks at Principe de Paz. What a morning. 90-minute worship, followed by photos, then photos, signing of Bibles, and more food than I could possibly eat.

PdP’s building was ravaged by the winter freeze flooding from pipe bursts, but was looking a lot better with new floors, some wall and ceiling work, paint, and new bathrooms.

Some of the children speak Spanish and are working on their English. Some of them speak English and are working on their Spanish. I preached in English and in Spanish. Spanglish.

The nativity scene was set, but as yet unoccupied.
Afterwards we were whisked into a Sunday school room for a last supper-ish tableau. As we sat down together, I said, “One of you will be betray me.” Without missing a beat, one student said, “Not me.”
